Do you plan a scientific stay abroad? At a university overseas? Being part of an international research project? Attending summer school?
You’ve already been accepted and all framework conditions are in place, but you’re still looking for funding? 
Then you’ve come to the right place: the Heinrich J. Klein Foundation may fund your project!

General Information

People during their training and further education period, in particular students (incl. PhD students), who go abroad for one scientifically qualifying stay are eligible to apply. 

Support will be granted for stays abroad which foster the scientific qualifications of scholarship recipients, e.g. project-related work assignments, seminars, summer courses. Mainly, scholarships will be offered in the areas of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Technology and Business or Economic Sciences.

Please note that this Scholarship is provided by the Heinrich J. Klein Foundation. The SCHOTT AG is only administering the application process.

For your application for one stay abroad (start within the period of September 2024 and August 2025) we need the following documents in English:

• Letter of motivation, incl. period of the stay abroad (1 page)
• Curriculum Vitae/ Resume (1 page)
• Official Transcript of records (current grades)
• One-Pager on how you personally have been supporting international exchange so far
• Overview of estimated costs, incl. indication of sources - only additional costs
• Letter of recommendation by the responsible professor (with reference to the stay abroad)
• Letter of confirmation of the university abroad (with reference to the stay abroad)
• Written confirmation that you meet the funding requirements of the foundation in accordance with § 5 of the Charter of the Heinrich J. Klein Foundation, respectively that you will immediately  inform the Heinrich J. Klein Foundation, in case you receive another commitment or offer of payment (1 page)

Further Selection Criteria

• Very good academic results (above average grades)

• Fluent English skills, if applicable adequate knowledge of another foreign language with regard to the planned stay abroad

• Candidates’ identification with the objectives of the foundation

  • Future commitment to international scientific exchange

  • Social engagement, such as extra-curricular and off-the-job activities

• Willingness to prepare a final report for the Board of Trustees and a testimonial for publishing on the homepage of the Heinrich J. Klein Foundation

Your Benefits

Preferably, support will be granted to people who can be expected to give their support in turn (i.e. to cooperate in science on an international level according to the goals defined by the foundation). The support is to be provided by awarding scholarships to finance temporary stays abroad as long as these are not being funded publicly or privately by other sources.
