As a Senior Engineer Optical Coating - Augmented Reality (m/w/d)* at SCHOTT, you will play a key role in shaping next‑generation Augmented Reality (AR) systems. You will join a global, fast‑moving team that transforms innovative ideas into high‑performance optical components through optical and mechanical design, advanced simulation techniques, thin‑film coating development and process engineering.
We are looking for a product‑oriented coating expert who thrives at the intersection of materials science, optics, and manufacturing—someone who can turn concepts into manufacturable coating solutions, guide cross‑functional teams, and drive coating technologies from prototype to high‑volume consumer production.

Ihre Aufgaben

• Perform optical coating simulations; propose new coating designs; challenge and optimize existing solutions for manufacturability and process capability. 
• Partner closely with optical designers to develop advanced AR waveguides, specifying and optimizing coating architectures that achieve superior optical performance while ensuring high volume production capability.
• Lead development projects for coating processes and designs, including process transfer activities across sites and expert training.
• Own coating related communication channels with customers; support technical negotiations and change management at product and process level.
• Manage feasibility studies for coating designs and processes in close collaboration with production, development, and quality teams.
• Support New Product Introduction activities to scale coatings into mass manufacturing.
• Contribute to qualification activities, resolve coating related quality issues, and guide improvements based on data and simulation insights.
• Conduct competitive analyses and benchmark coating technologies, recommending development measures for product or process improvements.
• Maintain and expand SCHOTT’s internal and external expert network in the coating and AR ecosystem.

Ihr Profil

• Degree in engineering, physics, materials science, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in thin film optical coating development (design, processing, simulation).
• Strong understanding of optical component manufacturing and coating process technologies.
• Proficiency with coating design and simulation tools; familiarity with scripting or automation workflows.
• Hands-on experience in thin-film coating measurement and characterization.
• Experience analyzing coating performance through data driven methods (e.g., simulation to measurement correlation, tolerances).
• Ability to solve complex technical challenges with a pragmatic, product focused mindset.
• Strong communication skills in English; willingness to travel internationally.
